August Coffee at the Museum Recap
On Thursday, August 16, the History Museum was pleased to host Dr. Joel Stegall as the “Coffee at the Museum” speaker. A retired university administrator, Dr. Stegall provided an overview of the history of Salisbury Prison during the Civil War. The overview featured five persons who were part of the prison over the years it was in operation.
Dr. Stegall was met by a standing-room-only crowd. The audience posed a number of questions about the prison.
He became interested in the prison through research into his own family history. His great-grandfather had been conscripted at the age of 48 to serve in the “geezer guard” at the prison, and the discovery of that information propelled Dr. Stegall into a new field of interest.
